Having pets is fun and the relationship between child and pet can be a magical one. They will learn how to look after their pel responsibly and enjoyably. Obviously parents will have to play a supervisory role, not only in daily care, but to explain that the new pet is living being and not a toy. A well-cared-for pet is happy one and will reward the whole family with unconditional love.
